After the tutorial a couple of weeks ago, it was suggested that client briefs should be put together to amount to a full brief instead a multiple small ones. Over summer I had spent a lot of time practicing my design skills and working on client briefs on 99Designs to earn a bit of cash.
While at the time of the tutorial I only had one small client brief in line as I was wanting to focus on the course, I have been invited to create design for a couple of people now.

Wheatless & More
A client who's branding I just completed before term started. (Shown in summer progress link)
Following the completion of the logo design, I was asked to create a simple stationary set for the company, including the following: Letterhead, business cards, envelope, social media icons and images. I was also asked my opinion on the website that is currently being built.

Website suggestion:
The client really liked my website suggestion and did actually implement it, but slightly differently. I would have liked the opportunity to be able to design the whole of their website, but they had a coder doing it.
Yesterday I was offered more work in creating some collateral for an upcoming trade show that they have. They have asked me to create the following:
3 stickers - all different sizes - all black and white
1 compliments card
1 A3 poster
While these are quite small jobs, it's still good that I am able to do these and expand on the initial branding I created for them in the first place.
The Woodshop
On Friday I was surprised to find out that I had been selected as a winner to this competition. This had been one that I participated in over summer, and no winner was ever selected. Following this win, the client has asked for my opinion on a logo design for another of their restaurants and what I can do with it.
The client likes the lips and wants to keep that as the main element to the design. I am currently speaking to the client about updating the overall look of the design, and updating the lips design so it is all a lot more contemporary.
Unique Muscle
Today this client sent me a message asking for me to design some labels for three new products that they have.
This is the first time I've been approached by a client without previous contact so it was a bit of a surprise, but a welcome one.
After reading over the brief they sent, I think that it is right up my street, especially with the examples they sent of designs which they like. I will be designing for labels to be stuck onto packages, as shown in the examples below. There are three different materials for the packages so the label needs to work over all three of them. The design must be simplistic and effective.
Examples:
Celebrate Health |
12 Health |
12 Health |
On the Celebrate Health packaging the client likes the boldness of the imagery and the white text over the top of it. On the 12 Health packaging the client likes the overall simplicity.
Current product ranges by Unique Muscle:
Their current products are visually very different. The first has a much more stereotypical approach to protein shakes etc. and the second has a much more young and contemporary feel to it. These, along with their website gives me the feeling that the client is currently trying to get a more contemporary look about the company.
I have sent the client a series of questions to help me in the initial designing stage of this brief, and help me decide on a quote for the work.
I am currently waiting to hear back from the client, but hopefully this brief will be enjoyable and I will be able to create something that I'm proud of and happy with.
